DIY Homemade Toothpaste
A DIY Homemade Toothpaste is effective and easy to make. It is cheap and mostly it allows you to leave out all the harmful ingredients commercial toothpaste is made of. It takes only 5 minutes to prepare.
As indicated in the recipe, Dr. Bronner’s soap is optional but I find that without it the toothpaste is a bit gritty! Plus it makes it a bit soapy which is kinda nice. Gives you that clean clean feeling. I also make it with baking soda and sometimes I like to add turmeric-also known as a teeth whitener. Less abrasive then baking soda. The only downfall is that your toothbrush will stain to a yellowish color. Not the end of the world but just sharing.
The great thing about making your own toothpaste besides avoiding all these chemicals is that you can also switch flavors every so often. As for the whitener, you can also alternate between baking soda to turmeric. Have fun with it! It ‘s a great DIY project, easy, quick and healthy!
Important Safety Tip: Try not to ingest it and if you must then use essential oils that 100% therapeutic grade oils for higher quality.
3 tsp. Dr.Bronner unscented or peppermint castille soap (optional)
**3 Tbsp. baking soda
3 Tbsp. coconut oil
10-15 drops peppermint essential oil
1-2 drops cloves essential oil (helps with gingivitis) (Optional). However very strong so just a little is enough.
1. Melt the coconut oil.
2. In a food processor or blender, add coconut oil, soap and essential oil(s). Blend until frothy.
3. Pour into a glass container.
4. Use only a small amount on your tooth brush for clean, fresh, inexpensive, beautiful smiles!
